It's always fascinating when a doctor, scientist, or professor performs an experiment using a specific way of dieting to lose weight. With all of the various types of diets out there, it can be really confusing as to what to eat in order to shed pounds and maintain a healthy weight. Recently, a professor conducted a junk food diet experiment on himself.

The professor's diet included eating some form of a snack cake (Twinkies, cupcakes, etc.) every 3 hours. He also ate nacho cheese chips, cookies, and sugar-filled cereal. A multivitamin and protein shake were also consumed on a daily basis along with some type of vegetable.

The experiment was conducted to prove that the amount of calories consumed is more significant than the quality of food eaten in terms of weight loss. The results were actually surprising. The professor lost 27 pounds within 2 months time. He also lowered his bad cholesterol and increased his good cholesterol.

Now you may be wondering if it's safe to eat a junk food diet for weight loss. Don't get too excited. Although the results were better than expected, there is no way to know the long-term results of eating this way. It wasn't concluded either way whether the diet was healthy or not.

There is no telling what other effects junk food eaten that often could have on an individual. It did make a point of the importance of calorie restriction, however, I'm sure there remains many other factors that were not considered in the experiment that could've resulted in a negative effect.

Watching your caloric intake, eating natural food rather than processed food, and a regular amount of physical activity continues to be the best way to regulate weight. The human body will benefit much more from whole food sources rather than chemically manufactured junk food.
